Sup guys, I’ve been hard at work on prepping for finals and all that shiz.
BUT I came back to post a headcanon (thats probably pretty inaccurate) that I just thought about.
Ok, so what do we know about Alternia’s Sun? It’s one bright motherfucker and overall it’s really uncomfortable for a troll to be outside. It makes sense because after all, they’re nocturnal. But have they always been?
My theory is that Alternia is post global warming and is slowly recovering. Think about how long it took for us to reach our industrial Revolution- about late 18th century to early 19th. It’s pretty clear that they’re well past that point. Well what does that mean? No god damn ozone layer. Polar ice caps melted (if they had them). Less oxygen in the atmosphere. And considering how much they would have been producing- a distinct lack of natural resources.
Our ozone layer’s job is to absorb harmful UV light so that we don’t get baked alive. Because Alternia likely doesn’t have one or it’s very thin, it sucks to be out in the sun unless you’re undead or a jadeblood (and therefore able to possibly be a rainbow drinker).
Highbloods already have the advantage of a long life span which is probably one of the main reasons why they dominate Alternia. However, certain highbloods cough-seadwellers-cough would probably be the best equipped to adapt to something like the polar ice caps melting. I think this is why there’s a pretty big gap between the power seadwellers have over all other land dwellers. Land masses got separated and smaller, land dwellers had to sail over water so they had to face some sort of taxation or the constant threat of being attacked from below.
One major reason for why we don’t have giant animals around anymore is because of a lack of oxygen. The bigger something is, the more air it needs. I think one of the reasons why ancestors can grow to be massive is that back in the early days of Alternia, they had a lot of oxygen in their atmosphere. Over time it dwindled and therefore trolls began to shrink in height in order to adapt. Also potentially why adults aren’t very common- as a troll grows up it just gets harder to take in as much oxygen as you need.
In addition to a lack of oxygen, Alternia probably has a major resource deficit. Trolls have certainly had enough time to reach a point where they’ve milked their planet dry of fuel and materials, and then did the only logical thing they could think of. Conquest. They conquer planets to get their resources and have to keep finding new planets to make sure they can keep growing.
I did mention they were recovering and I think that’s true for canon Alternia. Children aren’t really going to set up factories and use up fuel they don’t have or need for that matter, and as soon as they’re old enough to get an industrious mindset they get shipped off the planet to serve in the fleet. The harsh environment also grooms them for scouting and conquering other planets.
Alright, that’s it. I’ll reblog some stuff and then back to my vacation.
TROLLS LITERALLY HATCH THEIR SPAWN ON A DYING PLANET AND ONLY THE STRONGEST REACH ADULTHOOD tHAT’S SO INTENSE
